An icon of Bellingham's scenic South Hill neighborhood, Sacred Heart stands as a beautiful beacon of the Catholic faith atop 14th Street in picturesque Fairhaven.
The first Mass was offered in the new parish of Sacred Heart on Sunday, November 12, 1905 by Fr. John A O'Hagan.
The first building was a vacant store on 14th and Mill, and subsequent locations included a former newspaper building on the corner of 14th and Larrabee.
The first baptism was administered on November 29th, 1905, and the Confirmation records begin on October 8th, 1911. The first marriage was recorded on February 2nd, 1911, and the first recorded funeral was in May, 1910.
In 1912, the parish broke ground on 14th and Knox, where the parish stands today.
